Each import template (Contacts, Matters, Invoices) includes a Reference Tag column, which is an optional field only used for organisations with advanced upload requirements.

Please note, this process is not applicable for Invoices; leave this field blank on an Invoices import.

This optional field can link information across imports, such as when a Contact is referenced as the Client on a Matter, or if a Matter has one or more Invoices associated with it.

For example, if two Contacts have the same name and no other identifying information (such as an email or phone number), adding a unique Reference Tag to one Contact's entry and adding the same unique Reference Tag to a Matter in its import template ensures this Contact is associated with this Matter.

Reference Tags are only used when importing data to mattero, and are not displayed or stored in mattero once the import is complete.
