Plural Contacts link two or more Contacts in mattero. Each Contact can still be accessed separately, however a Plural Contact can also be assigned to Roles, Matters, and more as a group.
For example, a husband and wife can be recorded as a Plural Contact, allowing both to be a Client in a Matter.
Please note, each member of the Plural Contact will still be displayed in the Role, and can still be accessed individually.
Plural Contacts can also be deleted, however deleting a Plural Contact will not delete the Plural Contact's members' individual Contacts. (View the Delete Contacts article for this process.)
Creating a Plural Contact
You can link two or more existing Contacts into a new Plural Contact, create two or more new Contacts and then combine them a Plural Contact, or combine both existing and new Contacts to form a new Plural Contact.
To create a Plural Contact:
- From any page, select the Create button, then select Contact.
- In the window that opens, select Plural.
- Enter a Contact's name in the Contact field and select their details from the dropdown menu that appears; if this person is a new Contact, select Create New Contact instead.
Select New Member to add additional members, or select the Delete icon next to a Contact's name to remove them.
Selecting the Contact Information icon next to a Contact's name will fill the Details section with that Contact's primary phone number and primary email address. Selecting the Address icon will fill the Details section with that Contact's primary address.
Please note, these functions only apply to existing Contacts with this information saved in mattero. If you are creating a new Contact, or if the existing Contact does not have this information available in mattero, these icons will not be enabled.
Further, for existing Contacts this information can still be entered manually and edited as needed.
The Full Name section will automatically generate with the combined names of the Plural Contact members, however this can be edited.
Please note, any edits made here will affect how the Contact appears in any Templated Documents that include a Contact's name or details; view Step 5 of the Edit Document Templates article for more information.
Fill the remaining fields in the Details section as needed; when all information is entered, select Save.
Editing Plural Contacts and Adding/Remove Members
A Plural Contact can be edited to update or change their details, and to add or remove members as needed.
Please note, you can also add additional fields to record custom information (such as birthdays and business milestones) to a Plural Contact, and update these when editing.
(View the Create and Edit Contact Custom Fields article for more information.)
To edit a Plural Contact:
- From any page, search the name of a member of the Plural Contact, then select the Plural Contact.
- In the Plural Contact's page, select the Summary tab, then select Edit.
- Select the New Email, New Phone, and New Address buttons as needed to add a new email, phone number, and address respectively.
Alternatively, select the Delete icon (), to remove these from the Plural Contact.
(If you are adding or removing a Contact, it is recommended you update the Plural Contact's Full Name field to reflect this change.)
Please note, deleting a Contact's details from a Plural Contact will not delete them from mattero; instead, they will only be removed from the Plural Contact.
Further, if there are two or more entries in a field (such as two email addresses or two phone numbers), one entry must always be marked "Primary", which will be the default point of contact for this aspect of the Plural Contact.
If there are three or more entries in a field and the Primary entry is deleted, the next entry in the list will automatically become the Primary entry, however this can be changed as needed.
When all updates are made, select Save. Also, if you accidentally delete a field, selecting the Cancel button will undo any changes made.
