Installing and Using the mattero Outlook Add-in
mattero can work with Outlook to save emails and attachments directly to a Matter or a Contact in mattero, attach files to emails directly from mattero, and send emails to Contacts saved in mattero.
Please note, the mattero Outlook Add-in is only available when using an active Microsoft 365 Business Standard or Business Premium subscription.
Prerequisites
- Outlook 2016 for Windows (Version v16.0.7668.2000 onwards recommended)
- An active Microsoft 365 Business Standard or Business Premium subscription

Add-in Installation
To install the Outlook Add-in:
- Open your Office 365 Outlook account at office.com.
- Select Outlook from the list of applications.
- Download the Outlook Desktop application as needed, then select the Home tab, then select Get Add-ins.
- Select My add-ins, search for "mattero", then select Add in the mattero Outlook Add-in window that appears.
- A window will appear asking you to confirm the download. Select Continue.
To open the mattero Outlook Add-in in Outlook Desktop, select Save to mattero in the Home tab:
or Attach from mattero in the Message tab in an email:
Please note, the first time you select either of these options, you will be required to log in to your mattero account:
Select the Log In button; this will open a pop-up mattero window. Enter your mattero log in details as needed, then select Log In.
Please note, it is strongly recommended you pin the mattero Outlook add-in for ease of access after your first log in.
Please note, you can also log out at any time by selecting the Logout () icon in the bottom-left corner of the add-in.
Using the Outlook Add-in with Outlook Desktop
Selecting Save to mattero in the Home tab allows you to save an existing email message and/or its attachments to a mattero Matter or Contact.
To save a message or its attachments:
- Select the email, then select either Matters or Contacts.
- Select Suggested to view a list of Matters filtered on the subject line (should it include a Matter Number or Matter Title) and sender of the message (should they be a Client in the Matter).
Select My to view Matters you are the lawyer for, or select Search to find a specific Matter (the Contacts section offers the Search function only).
- Select a Matter or Contact from the list.
Select the checkbox next to the email and/or attachment(s) to select them for saving, and select the name of either the email or the attachment(s) to change it as needed (this will change the email or attachment's name in mattero, but will not change their names in Outlook).
Add any Tags as needed, then select Save.
When composing a new message, select Attach from mattero in the Message tab. This allows you to:
- Save the sent email and its attachments to a Matter or Contact.
- Attach Documents from a Matter or Contact.
- Forward the email to Contacts associated with a Matter in mattero.
To save a message to a Matter or Contact:
- Open a new message, select the Select Matter/Contact to Save Email button, then select either Matters or Contacts.
- Select Suggested to view a list of Matters filtered on the subject line (should it include a Matter Number or Matter Title) and sender of the message (should they be a Client in the Matter).
- Select My to view Matters you are the lawyer for, or select Search to find a specific Matter (the Contacts section offers the Search function only).
- Select a Matter or Contact from the list (the message will be saved once it is sent).
To attach Documents to a message:
- Open a new message, select the Attach Documents to Email button, then select either Matters or Contacts.
- Select Suggested to view a list of Matters filtered on the subject line (should it include a Matter Number or Matter Title) and sender of the message (should they be a Client in the Matter).
Select My to view Matters you are the lawyer for, or select Search to find a specific Matter (the Contacts section offers the Search function only).
- Select a Matter or Contact from the list; this will open a list of associated Documents. Select Documents from the list as needed, or select a Document's Action menu and select Attach as PDF for Word files as needed.
To send a message to a Contact in mattero:
- Open a new message, then select the Send Email to Contacts button.
- Select Suggested to view a list of Matters filtered on the subject line (should it include a Matter Number or Matter Title) and sender of the message (should they be a Client in the Matter).
Select My to view Matters you are the lawyer for, or select Search to find a specific Matter.
- Select a Matter from the list; this will show a list of Contacts associated with the Matter. Select Contacts as needed (they will appear in the "To" section of the message).
Using the Outlook Add-in with Outlook Online
To access the Save to mattero function in Outlook Online:
- Select an email and select its Action menu, then select mattero, then follow the process detailed in the Outlook Desktop section shown above.
To access the Attach to mattero function in Outlook Online:
- Open a new message and select its Action menu, then select mattero, then follow the process detailed in the Outlook Desktop section shown above.
