Timers track the time spent on a Matter while the Matter is open in mattero.
Note: Timers DO NOT begin automatically. You need to manually start or stop the Timer when you're working on a Matter, by selecting the Play and Pause buttons.
Timers are specific to the device you open a Matter with; a Timer's progress on a Matter DOES NOT carry between devices.
For e.g. if you open a Matter on a laptop and start the Timer, then open the same Matter at the same time on a phone and start the Timer there as well, you'll notice that mattero displays two separate Timers, not the same Timer recording the same time on both devices.
Also, if you close a Matter and pause the Matter Timer on your laptop and then open it on your phone, there will be a new Timer. When you start this Timer, it won't begin from where the last Timer ended.
To configure a Timer:
- On the sidebar, select System ().
- Under Matters, select Timers.
- Select Add Timers to enable Timers for specific Matters.
Timer placement: The Timer is located in the top right, next to the User Profile icon.
Manual Play and Pause: When a Matter with a configured Timer is opened, you have to manually start the Timer at the top.
Remember, there's no automatic start or stop. So, if you end your work without manually pausing the Timer and you get back to it later, the Timer will be on for the entire duration.
To use the Timer:
- Select the Pause icon to pause the Timer, or select the Play icon to start a paused Timer.
- Select the Reset icon to reset the Timer to zero.
Matter Timer Description: When you Add a Matter Timer, you can also add a Description to give more context to it.
Note: You can edit this Description whenever you want.
Quick access on Matter page: When you open a Matter with a Timer, you can view the Timer on the right side of the page. You can Pause, Play or Reset the Timer from here.
You can also Create a Time/Fee Record for the Matter Timer from right here.
Multiple Timers per Matter: You can add more than one Timer for the same Matter. Just keep in mind that if a Matter has multiple Timers, only one Timer will run at a time.
Only one Timer per device: On each device, there's only one Timer tracking your time, even if you have multiple Matters open. If you switch between Matters, you need to stop and/or start the Matter Timers yourself.
View all Matter Timers in one place: All your Matter Timers will be displayed in a handy list in one place. Select View All to see them all.
If you hover over the Timer, you can also see when a particular Matter Timer was created.
Edit the Description: You can edit the Timer Description at any point. Select the Actions icon next to the Timer on the Matter Timers page. Then select Edit.
In the Update Matter Timer window that opens up, edit the Description and then select Save.
Search option: If you have several Timers, you can also search for a specific Timer via the Search dropdown on the top left of the Matter Timers page.
On this screen, you can also see the total number of Timers you have open.
Bulk actions: You can commit bulk actions such as multi-selecting your Matter Timers to delete them or clear them all simultaneously. You can do this from the Actions button in the top right of the Matter Timers page.
Note: You need to multiselect the Matter Timers to delete them in bulk, but not to clear them. Selecting Clear All Timers will delete all your Timers.
You can also delete an individual Timer by going to the Actions menu to the right of each Matter Timer, and selecting Delete from the options. A pop-up window will be displayed asking you to confirm the action. The Timer will be deleted only when you select Yes.
Create a Time/Fee Record: You can create a Time/Fee Record for any Matter Timer. We saw above that you can Create a Time/Fee Record directly from the Matter page (for a Matter with a configured Timer).
- You can also create a Time/Fee Record from the Timers screen on top by selecting the Create Time/Fee Record icon.
- You can also create a time record from the list of Timers by selecting the Actions menu on the right of each Matter Timer and then selecting Create Time/Fee Record.
- Alternatively, you can Create a Time/Fee Record directly by selecting the Create Time/Fee Record icon on the right of each Matter Timer.
- This will display a Create Time/Fee Record form where all the fields (other than Cost Code and Description) will be pre-filled.
- Fill in the remaining fields and select Save.
Note: When you create a Time/Fee Record, that Matter Timer will be removed from the list of Matter Timers.
The Time/Fee Record will be displayed under the Costs tab in the Matter. You can also access Costs from the sidebar visible on any page in mattero.
